Let’s define family!
You get to decide.
One definition – family is a group of loved ones working on the same targeted goals.
There are families of all kinds – blended families, disjointed families, adult children working with their parents, youth and their parents, and so many more combinations that we could never list them all.
One of the most frequent calls we receive is for family therapy, however after some discussion with you, it is often an individual within the family that first desires a change to get the family change rolling.
Let’s define family therapy!
Family therapy is similar to individual therapy or couples therapy, it just has more people. It could be any combination of 2 or more individuals working to improve their family relationship together.
Family therapy can integrate our experiential techniques and we often find those experiences through play, art, or activities helps connect the members together.
One difference in family therapy vs. individual therapy, all members of the family must be agreeable and ready to work on their common goal.
We work with you to set goals and move to achieve them.
Family therapy with our office is unique just like the individuals involved.
Some common goals in family therapy are communication, connection, and building relationship. Often, we see families when there has been a change in family dynamics such as new care givers, the loss of a caregiver, or even moving to a new area.
Many of our families prefer experiential therapy to help them communicate their needs and find that play therapy works to blend in the sharing of their life in context to the others in the home environment.
